AI Transformation: No-One’s At The Wheel, Says 500-Company Study

Just posted to my Forbes column about the breakneck pace of AI adoption and the growing leadership gap behind it.

Companies are racing to embed AI into everything, with revenues in the space skyrocketing in just months. But a new global survey shows something striking: most organizations still don’t know who is actually accountable for AI decisions. Very few have a clear strategy, employees feel uncertain or even fearful, and leadership ownership is surprisingly rare.

The result is what researchers call an “AI velocity gap,” where technology is moving far faster than the human systems needed to manage it.

One line that really stood out to me: “You’re not scaling intelligence, you’re scaling risk.”

That tension runs through the whole story. The companies seeing real gains from AI are the ones that pair advanced deployment with clear human oversight, ownership, and trust. Everyone else is moving fast, but without a map.
