We might actually be at the tipping point for humanoid robots.
1X just started full-scale production of Neo — its home humanoid — at a factory in Hayward, California. 10,000 pre-orders in five days last October. Shipping before end of 2026. And here’s the thing: 1X builds almost everything themselves, down to the copper coil in the motors.
CEO Bernt Børnich: “Most people think humanoids are a robotics problem. They’re wrong. It’s a manufacturing problem.”
It bears more than a passing resemblance to what Tesla said about battery cells and what SpaceX said about rocket engines. Both times, the conventional wisdom turned out to be wrong — once volume showed up.
