Facebook Goes All-In On Virtual And Augmented Reality

Four of Facebook’s 14 major announcements at its annual F8 developer conference yesterday were focused on virtual and augmented or mixed reality. Today, the company is providing additional tools to help people create the content that will blend real and digital worlds.

Facebook is giving all attendees a 360-degree Giroptic camera.

The $250 device attaches to smartphones, enabling live broadcasts of 360-degree video to Facebook, YouTube, and Twitter’s Periscope. The result is an immersive experience for viewers, who can see the entire experience being shared: front, back, up, and down.
