So, instead of trying to create a robot hand that can do everything a human hand can, Zinova developed a non-dexterous grasper that simply clamps onto these existing tools and pulls the trigger. The real magic happens with their TEISI feedback sensor, which is like giving the robot a sixth sense, letting it feel force, torque, and vibration, just like a seasoned carpenter knows when a drill bit is about to bind. This allows their robots to adapt in real-time, handling the kind of variability that used to stump even the smartest machines.

Imagine a robot not just doing a single repetitive task, but actually building a 6×6 tilt-up panel from start to finish – tacking wood, drilling, installing rebar, and even smoothing concrete. That’s what Zinova’s demo video shows, proving these aren’t your grandpa’s rigid, easily confused construction bots. This “Tool Intelligence” layer is designed to transfer across different tools, tasks, and even robot bodies, offering a truly general-purpose solution. And for those worried about robots stealing jobs, CEO Ryan Cox says this is about filling the massive labor gaps in construction, not creating them.
