Meet Flourish 1, a new home robot that just stepped out of stealth mode, and it’s surprisingly basic – but that’s entirely the point! This San Francisco startup has cooked up a bot that costs just $3,555, can learn a new chore in about 30 minutes, and lifts a modest 3.3 pounds. It’s not winning any beauty contests with its “chopped-off garbage can with wheels” base, but its cute hat and fresh colors give it some charm. Every design choice, including its limited lifting capacity, was made with a specific mission in mind: to create a practical, trainable, and most importantly, affordable robot for the average household.
Flourish’s CEO, Antoine Marcel, explains that unlike many humanoid companies building for factories and homes, they’ve stripped down the hardware to what’s truly needed indoors. This means no heavy-duty parts or industrial-grade waterproofing, dramatically cutting costs. Plus, with robot components becoming more accessible and open-source AI models readily available, small startups like Flourish can now build sophisticated bots without starting from scratch. Owners can teach Flourish 1 tasks like picking up shoes, wiping tables, or even clearing a litter box simply by demonstrating with a mobile app – no coding required! Pre-orders are open for the first 50 units, with deliveries expected by December 2026.
While it might be a bit slow and herky-jerky, its price point is a game-changer compared to competitors costing upwards of $20,000. Flourish 1 also takes a unique approach to AI, fine-tuning state-of-the-art models directly to your home, objects, and routines, rather than trying to build a single universal AI. The real magic, Marcel says, isn’t just a robot that picks up your socks; it’s the freedom you gain because you didn’t have to. This tiny, slow, and somewhat limited robot proves that the trend of accessible, affordable home humanoids definitely has legs – or, well, wheels!
