A court filing from Apple today raises questions about whether Epic Games’ battle against App Store fees is altruistic or simply motivated by a focus on getting a better deal for Epic.
“Epic’s CEO Tim Sweeney wrote my colleagues and me an email asking for a ‘side letter’ from Apple that would create a special deal for only Epic that would fundamentally change the way in which Epic offers apps on Apple’s iOS platform,” former Apple VP Phil Schiller wrote in a filing according to CNBC.
Epic sued Apple alleging it holds a payments monopoly on iOS on August 13.
Sweeney’s letter to Apple was sent on June 30.
